Cowgirls Fall To UMHB In Volleyball

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team dropped its American Southwest Conference match against ASC West Division leader Mary Hardin-Baylor, 22-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-13 on Tuesday night at the Mabee Complex.

The Cowgirls came out strong in the first game and was able to pull out a close 25-22 win. In the second game, the Cowgirls led 22-20 but the Cru closed strong to even the match. UMHB then went on to win games three and four to take the match.

Allison Kuster led the Cowgirls with a double-double. She had 11 kills and 11 digs. She also went over the 1,000-dig mark for her career, becoming the second Cowgirl in a week to go over 1,000 digs joining Leecia DePaula.

DePaula led the defense with 18 digs and Meagan Bauer added 13. Kaytlynn Lewis had 10 kills and hit .346 for the match.

UMHB was led by its stellar duo of Corinne Novak (15 kills) and Jenna Gillean (13 kills and 14 digs). Miranda Klein almost had a triple-double with 19 digs, 11 assists and eight kills. The Cru hit .234 in the match.

The Cowgirls are now 11-7 overall and 3-5 in ASC play. UMHB improved to 14-1 overall and 9-0 in conference play. HSU will host Sul Ross State on Friday night at 7 p.m.
