Cowgirls Topple Kangaroos In Volleyball Action


ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team won the first two games, dropped the next two games and were down 6-0 in the deciding game, but rallied for an exciting 25-16, 25-16, 20-25, 21-25, 15-10 win over Austin College on Saturday at the Mabee Complex.  

The Cowgirls came out strong and led 17-6 in the early going and held on for a 25-16 win. In the second game, HSU used a 5-0 run to take a 17-12 lead and pushed the lead out even more with another 5-0 run that made it 23-14.

Austin College battled back and took the next two games two force a deciding fifth game. AC rolled off six straight points to take a 6-0 lead before the Cowgirls came right back and scored nine of the next 11 points to take a 10-9 lead.

HSU then closed out the match with five straight points, including a pair of service aces by Taylor Woods.

Meagan Bauer led a balanced Cowgirl attack with 13 kills. Morgan Prince hit .409 for the match and had 10 kills and Kaytlynn Lewis added 10 kills. Leecia DePaula had 21 digs for HSU.

Christine Royalty led Austin College with 17 kills and Aelyn Rodriguez added 10. Mari Prazak led the defense with 18 digs.

The Cowgirls are now 10-7 on the year and Austin College fell to 10-8. HSU will host Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
