ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team fell to crosstown rival McMurry 26-24, 25-13, 23-25, 25-13 in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex on Thursday night.
Both teams came out swinging in the first game and the Cowgirls had a 24-22 lead, before the War Hawks scored four straight points to win the first set 26-24.
McMurry had the advantage in the second set and cruised to a 25-13 win. In the third set, the Cowgirls had a lead for most of the way before McMurry scored five straight points to take a 23-22 lead. The Cowgirls responded with three straight points to force a fourth game.
In the fourth game, McMurry jumped out to an 8-2 lead and never looked back to seal the win.
Jasmine Jones led the War hawks with 14 kills and Jordyn Burnell added 10 as the War Hawks hit .217 in the match.
HSU is now 10-6 on the year and 3-4 in conference play. The Cowgirls will step out of conference play and host Austin College at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Mabee Complex. McMurry improved to 14-2 on the year and 5-1 in conference play.
