Cowgirls Split At ASC Crossover

 

ALPINE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday at the American Southwest Conference Crossover Tournament in Alpine, rallying to beat East Texas Baptist 3-2 and falling 3-0 to UT-Tyler.

Hardin-Simmons 3, East Texas Baptist 2 (19-25, 19-25, 25018, 25-11, 15-8)

The Cowgirls fell behind, 2-0, to East Texas Baptist but came roaring back for the win. ETBU won the first two games 25-19. In the third game, HSU came back and won 25-18 and then rolled the final two games 25-11 and 15-8.

Allison Kuster led the Cowgirl offense with 14 kills and she added 11 digs.

Defensively, five Cowgirls hit double figures in digs. Leecia DePaula had 20, Kuster and Meagan Bauer had 11 and Rebekah Hayes and Mary Johnson added 10.

 

UT-Tyler 3, Hardin-Simmons 0 (25-17, 25-17, 27-25)

In the final game of the weekend, No. 23 Ut-Tyler won the first two games 25-17 and pulled out the third game 27-25.

Morgan Prince led the Cowgirls with 10 kills and she hit .421 in the match. Kuster added nine kills. DePaula led the defense with 17 digs.

HSU is now 10-5 overall and 3-3 in American Southwest Conference play. The Cowgirls will return home to face McMurry on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Mabee Complex.
