Cowgirls Fall In Five To Sul Ross State In Alpine


ALPINE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team dropped an American Southwest Conference match to Sul Ross State, 26-28, 25-23, 21-25, 25-15, 15-13.

HSU trailed 24-22 in the first set but came back and eventually won the game on back-to-back kills by Morgan Prince. The Cowgirls trailed 23-17 in the second game and fought back with six straight points to tie the game at 23 but Sul Ross scored the final two points to square the match at 1-1.

The Cowgirls scored the final four points of the third game to win 25-21 and take a 2-1 lead, before Sul Ross State tied the match with a strong fourth game.

In the deciding set, Sul Ross used a 4-0 run to take a 10-8 lead and the teams traded runs and were tied at 12-12. The Lobos won the of the final four points to take the match.

Morgan Prince led the Cowgirls with 22 kills as she hit. 415 in the match. Allison Kuster added 25 digs and 13 kills. Rebekah Hayes had 29 assists and 12 digs and Leecia DePaula added 11 digs.

HSU is now 8-3 on the year and 1-2 in conference play. Sul Ross State improved to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in league play. The Cowgirls play at Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday.
