Cowgirls Set Aces Record In Sweep Of Howard Payne

 

BROWNWOOD, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team swept Howard Payne 25-19, 25-7, 25-14 in American Southwest Conference action at the Brownwood Coliseum on Friday night.

The Cowgirls tied a school record with 18 service aces in the match and limited Howard Payne to a -.051 hitting percentage. Allison Kuster set the school record with nine service aces in the match.

Kuster also led a balanced Cowgirl attack with seven kills. Ashley Pierce led the defense with nine digs and she also added eight assists. Rebekah Hayes led the team with 10 assists.

The Cowgirls jumped out to a 16-6 lead in the first game and never trailed. It was more of the same in the second game as HSU led 6-0 and 11-1 and rolled to the victory. The Cowgirls had a 16-6 lead in the third game as well and were never threatened.

HSU is now 8-2 on the year and 1-1 in league play and Howard Payne fell to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in ASC action. The Cowgirls travel to Alpine on Saturday to play Sul Ross State at 3 p.m.
