ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team dropped its American Southwest Conference opener on Tuesday night with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-20 loss to Concordia at the Mabee Complex.
Concordia took control of the first game early on and held off the Cowgirls.
The second game was tied at 18 when Marissa Stinson and Tristyn Massey combined for four straight kills for the Tornados to take the lead.
In the third game, HSU again had battled and trailed 20-19, before Concordia scored five of the last six points of the match for the win.
Concordia hit .214 for the match and held the Cowgirls to an .058 hitting percentage. Morgan Prince, Peyton Mandrell and Kaytlynn Lewis had six kills each for the Cowgirls and Massey led the way with 17 kills and 11 digs for Concordia.
Kuster had 11 digs and Mary Johnson added 10 to pace the Cowgirls.
HSU is now 7-2 on the year and 0-1 in ASC play. Concordia improved to 5-4 on the year and 1-0 in league play. The Cowgirls will play at Howard Payne on Friday at 7 p.m.
