Cowgirls Go 2-0 on Second Day of Cal Lu Invitational

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball finished up the Cal Lu Invitational weekend 2-0 on Saturday, winning 3-0 against Redlands and 3-1 vs. Willamette. 

The Cowgirls completed the sweep of Redlands, 25-21, 25-17, 25-23, behind senior Allison Kuster's double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs. Other seniors Meagan Bauer and Morgan Prince contributed to the offense with eight and seven kills respectively.

Leecia DePaula led the Cowgirls with 16 digs, while the assists column was headed by Ashley Pierce with 19 and Rebekah Hayes with 13.

The second match of the day against Willamette, HSU won 25-15, 26-24, 28-30, 25-17 and saw three Cowgirls with double-double performances.

Kuster again led the offense with 12 kills, while tying DePaula for the team-lead in digs with 18. Bauer and Prince had 10 kills each, and Bauer added 11 digs for her double-double with kills.

Pierce was the third Cowgirl with a double-double, leading the team in assists with 26 and adding 11 digs. Senior Hayes also had 21 assists.

The Cowgirls (7-1) opens American Southwest Conference play against Concordia University at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Mabee Complex in Abilene.
