Cowgirls Split At California Lutheran Tournament


THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday at the Cal Lufornia Invitational, beating Pomona-Pitzer in five games before falling 3-0 to No. 12 California Lutheran.

In the first match of the day, the Cowgirls rallied from a 2-1 deficit to take the match. P-P won the first game 25-23 before the Cowgirls won game two 25-21. P-P won the third game 25-20. HSU rallied in the fourth game for a 27-25 win to force a deciding fifth game.

The Cowgirls jumped to an early lead and held on for a 15-11 win to improve to 5-0 on the season.

Kaytlynn Lewis led the Cowgirls with a career-best 17 kills. Allison Kuster had another double-double with 15 kills and 18 digs. Morgan Prince added 13 kills. Leecia DePaula had 30 digs for HSU and Megan Bauer added 17 digs and nine kills. Ashley Pierce had 34 assists and 12 digs.

CLU opened up with a 25-12 win before the Cowgirls came back with two close sets.

Kuster and Bauer had eight kills each. Kuster led the team with 14 digs.

The Cowgirls are now 5-1 on the season and will play Redlands at 5 p.m. CST and Willamette at 7 p.m. CST on Saturday.
