SHERMAN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team completed a perfect weekend with a pair of wins on Saturday at the Austin College Invitational in Sherman.
The Cowgirls opened the day with a 25-10, 25-16, 25-17 win over Schreiner and came back in the afternoon with a 25-15, 25-23, 20-25, 25-19 win over Centenary.
HSU controlled the match from the outset against SU. HSU led 19-6 in the first game and had a 10-3 lead in game two. They cruised in both games. In the final game, it was tied at 13-13 before a 7-0 HSU run gave the Cowgirls control that they would not relinquish.
Against Schreiner, the Cowgirls hit .241 as a team and limited the Mountaineers to an .019 hitting percentage. Morgan Prince, Meagan Bauer and Sarah Bennett had seven kills each to pace a balanced attack.
HSU used a 12-2 run midway through the first game against Centenary to take control. The second game was close throughout and tied at 23 all. HSU won the final two points, including a block by Kaytlynn Lewis and Bennett to end the game.
Centenary battled back to take game three, taking an early 10-3 lead and holding off the Cowgirls. HSU responded with a 10-3 start of their own in the fourth game and HSU held the advantage throughout to close the match and the perfect weekend.
Kuster and DePaula had 19 digs each and Pierce added 15 digs to go along with 25 assists. Bauer also reached double figures with 11 digs.
The Cowgirls are now 4-0 on the year and will head to California for four matches next weekend, before opening its home slate on Sept. 11 at the Mabee Complex.
