Cowgirls Close Season With Loss in ASC Tournament

RICHARDSON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team closed its 2017 campaign with a 17-25, 25-16, 22-25, 29-27, 15-10 loss to East Texas Baptist in the American Southwest Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon at the UTD Activity Center.

The Cowgirls came out hot and did not have a single attack error in the first game as they rolled to a 25-17 win. ETBU tied the game with a 25-16 win in game two. HSU took a 2-1 lead in the third game when it scored the final three points for a 25-22 win. HSU had rallied from an 18-13 deficit.

In the fourth game, the Cowgirls had a 23-18 lead before ETBU scored seven of the next eight points to take a 25-24 lead. The teams were tied at 25, 26, and 27 before ETBU scored the final two points.

ETBU used an 8-3 run in the final game to take control and held on for the win.

Allison Kuster led the Cowgirl offense with a career-best 21 kills and she also added 13 digs for a double-double. Grace Schulz had 16 kills for HSU and Morgan Prince (12) and Meagan Bauer (11) each reached double figures in kills.

Ashley Pierce had a double-double with a career-high 57 assists and she also added 18 digs. Leecia DePaula had 21 digs for the Cowgirls and Mary Johnson added 16 digs and six service aces.

The Cowgirls close the season with a record of 15-17 and East Texas Baptist improved to 13-18.

It was the final game at HSU for senior Grace Schulz.
