Cowgirls Clinch ASC Tournament Bid

ALPINE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team swept Sul Ross State 25-17, 25-17, 25-21 on Friday evening in Alpine to clinch a berth into the American Southwest Conference Tournament. 

With the first game tied at 13, the Cowgirls went on an 8-1 run to take control of the set and held on for the win. In the second game, HSU pushed out to a 7-2 lead to open up the set and never trailed after that to take command of the match.

The final game went back and forth and the Cowgirls trailed 21-20, but scored the final five points to finish off the sweep.

Morgan Prince led the Cowgirls with 14 kills and Allison Kuster added 11. Ashley Pierce had 38 assists and 13 digs for a double-double. Leecia DePaula had 15 digs and Mary Johnson added 10.

HSU had a strong serving match with eight aces. Kuster led the way with three aces.

The Cowgirls are now 11-15 overall and 8-7 in league play. Sul Ross State fell to 3-23 and 1-14 in conference action. HSU will play at Howard Payne at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
