ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team beat LeTourneau 22-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-15 in the American Southwest Conference crossover match at the Mabee Complex on Friday evening.
LeTourneau used a 4-1 run in the first game after it was tied at 20 to take game No. 1. After that, the Cowgirls dominated the match.
HSU rolled out to a 9-3 start in game two and never let the Yellow Jackets back in it. In the third game, HSU used a 10-1 run to push out to a 19-8 lead. In the final game, HSU took over the game with a 7-2 run midway through and held on for the win.
Three Cowgirls hit double figures in kills. Allison Kuster had 13 kills and Grace Schulz and Morgan Prince added 12 each. Ashley Pierce had 37 assists and 12 digs. Leecia DePaula had 17 digs and Mary Johnson added 11 digs.
HSU had a big blocking effort with 12 team blocks. Schulz was in on nine of them.
Hailey Matthews led LeTourneau with 14 kills in the match. Cam Taylor had 16 kills and 17 digs and Liz Williams added 18 digs.
HSU is now 9-13 and 6-5 in ASC play. LeTourneau improved to 7-16 overall and 2-9 in league play.
The Cowgirls will play a pair of matches on Saturday, starting with a 12:30 p.m. match against Belhaven. HSU will close out the crossover with a 5:30 p.m. match against UT Dallas.
