Cowgirls Split at ASC Crossover Tournament


LONGVIEW, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team split a pair of matches at the American Southwest Conference Crossover Tournament in Longview on Saturday.


Game 1

Texas-Tyler 3, HSU 0

HSU dropped the opener on Saturday to Texas-Tyler, 25-17, 26-24, 25-20.

The Patriots used a 10-4 run to take control of the first game and held on. In the second game, the teams went back-and-forth and were tied at 24 when the Patriots won the final two points to take a 2-0 advantage. UTT took the third game midway through with a 7-2 run and held on for the sweep.

Grace Schulz led the Cowgirls with 10 kills in the match. Defensively, Megan Bauer had 15 digs and Allison Kuster and Leecia DePaula had 11 digs each.


Game 2

HSU 3, Louisiana College 1

The Cowgirls took the final match of the tournament with a 25-14, 25-11, 20-25, 25-12 win over Louisiana College.

HSU dominated the first two sets hitting over .400 in both sets. LC battled back and took the third set. HSU came right back in the fourth set and hit .481 and took it 25-12 to take the victory.

Schulz had 13 kills for the Cowgirls and Bauer added 12 and Morgan Price chipped in with 11. DePaula led the defense with 23 digs. Ashley Pierce had 26 assists and Rebekah Hayes added 16.

The Cowgirls went 2-1 in the tournament and are now 7-10 overall and 4-2 in conference action. HSU hosts Howard Payne on Friday at 6 p.m. in its next action.
