BELTON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday at the Mary Hardin-Baylor Invitation in Belton.
The Cowgirls rallied from a 2-1 deficit to force a fifth game, but fell 15-11 in the deciding game to lose to UT Tyler, 25-22, 20-25, 25-19, 19-25, 15-11.
HSU had a balanced attack in the match and Megan Bauer led the way with 14 kills. Allison Kuster had 12 kills and Grace Schulz added 11. Schulz also had a strong game at the net with eight blocks. Kuster had a double-double as she added 11 digs.
HSU responded in the second contest of the day and swept Regis (Mass.) 25-23, 26-24, 25-21 to improve to 1-1 on the year. Regis fell to 0-2 on the year.
The Cowgirls had a .222 hitting percentage in the match and Bauer led the way with 10 kills. The Cowgirls had nine blocks as a team in the match and Schulz was in on six of them.
HSU will play a pair of matches on Saturday, beginning with a 10 a.m. match against Massachusetts-Boston followed by a 3:30 contest against Susquehanna.
