Cowgirls Split At Austin College Tournament
SHERMAN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Austin College Tournament on Friday evening, losing 25-20, 25-18, 25-20 to Southwestern and coming back to beat previously unbeaten Austin College 25-21, 28-26, 25-21.

In the match against Southwestern the Pirates scored the last eight points of game one to erase a 20-17 Cowgirl lead. The Pirates closed out the second game with six straight points. The third game was tied at 16 before Southwestern used an 8-2 run to take control.

In game one against Austin College, HSU trailed 18-14 but used an 11-3 run to close the game. HSU battled back from a 21-18 deficit in game three and won the game 28-26. In the decisive game HSU used an 8-0 run to go from 18-15 down to 23-18 up and closed it out.

The Cowgirls used a dominating performance from Corrie Hall, who had 16 kills on 22 swings for an amazing .727 hitting percentage.

  • Freshman Allison Kuster led the Cowgirls with 17 kills.
  • Leecia DePaula had 15 digs and Lauren Wish added 14 to lead the stingy defense.
  • Morgan Prince had 35 assists in the match.
Game Notes
  • The rivalry with Austin College goes back to the early American Southwest Conference days. HSU is now 20-23 all-time against the Kangaroos.
  • Southwestern leads the all-time series with HSU 26-9 and has won five straight meetings.

Up Next

The Cowgirls will play the University of Dallas at noon on Saturday followed by a 4 p.m. match against Southern Nazarene.
