Cowgirls Take The Lead At ASC Track and Field Championship


ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's track and field team has a narrow lead after the first day of the American Southwest Conference Track and Field Championship.

In the running preliminaries, HSU qualified two for the 100-meter final, four for the 200-meter final, two for the 400-meter final, three in the 100-meter hurdles final and two in the 400-meter hurdles final.

Sydney Tencate started the day with her third straight ASC title in the 10,000 meters. She ran a time of 41:17 and won the race by over a minute. Alexandra Fulton was fourth and Britany Acosta fifth.

Samantha Pennese tied for second in the high jump with a 4-8 ¾. Zada Washington tied for sixth with a height of 4-6 ¾.

Pennese won the long jump as the Cowgirls had six placers in the event. She had a jump of 17-4. Johanna Jones was second, Kendra Fisher fourth, Camryn Aldridge sixth and Alexi Bushong placed eighth.

Sydney Cortes placed third in the discus, Laura Bennett was fourth and Britni Starr placed fifth.

Hardin-Simmons is in first place in the team race with 78.83 points. McMurry is second with 72. LeTourneau is third with 43.33. ETBU is third with 13.5, Concordia is fifth with 11.33, Ozarks is sixth with nine points and Belhaven is in seventh with two points.
