Track Sets Five School Marks


ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Hardin-Simmons' track teams opened the season by breaking five school records at the Martin Luther King Invite at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M.

The meet featured mainly Division I teams and a few Division II teams along with HSU.

Sydney Tencate lowered the school marks in the 3,000 meters and the mile and Lauren Robson set the school mark in the 600 meters.

Destani Warner led the Cowgirl sprinters with a time of 8.48 in the 60 meters. Rhea Harris led the 200 runners with a 27.82. Myra Carrion ran a 1:05.13 to pace the 400 meter runners.

Robson set the school mark in the 600 meters with a 1:50.82. Tencate lowered her own school record in the mile with a 5:31.08. She also placed fourth and lowered the school record by over a minute and a half with a time of 11:00.

Rhea Harris led the long jumpers with a leap of 15-7.  


Clayton Holmes led the 60-meter runners for the men with a time of 7.29. Myles Stennis ran a 23.13 in the 200 meters to pace 10 Cowboy sprinters. Hasanai Chanriang ran a 51.83 in the 400 meters.

Lorenzo Jones set the school record in the 600 meters with a time of 1:27.82. River Smith ran a 5:11 in the mile to pace the Cowboys and ran a 10:00 in the 3000 meters.

Chanriang, Zach Fitch, Nygel Starling and Myles Stennis lowered the school 4x400 mark by over seven seconds finishing with a time of 3:28.05.

Jones had a leap of 20-5 ¾ in the long jump, which was a ½ inch away from the school mark.

HSU will next be in action Feb. 3 at Texas Tech.
