ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's tennis team heads to the American Southwest Conference tennis tournament as the No. 2 seed out of the ASC West Division.
The Cowgirls are 7-11 overall but have won five of their last seven matches. HSU will play the University of the Ozarks in the first round at 9 a.m. on Thursday at SMU in Dallas. Thursday's matches have been moved indoors because of anticipated wet weather conditions. The rest of the tournament will be at UT-Dallas, weather permitting.
The winner of the HSU/Ozarks match will play the winner of East Texas Baptist and Concordia in the semifinals at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. LeTourneau and McMurry will play a first-round match and the winner will play UT-Dallas in the other semifinal. The Championship is slated for 11 a.m. on Saturday.
HSU has won nine ASC titles in its history but is looking for its first since 2007.
The Cowgirls have a good mix of veterans and underclassmen. Sophomore Maddie Hammond has held down the No. 1 singles position for the Cowgirls and she went 3-3 in ASC play. Junior Abigail Kendall has played at No. 2 and posted a 4-2 record in conference. Junior Kyra Mobley at No. 3 went 4-1 in conference play.
