Cowgirls Beat UTD, 5-4
ABILENE, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons' women's tennis team beat UT-Dallas 5-4 in American Southwest Conference action on Saturday at the Streich Tennis Center.

HSU took early control with a sweep of doubles action. Michaela Ellison and Shayne Cook won 8-5 at No. 1, Jasmine Briant and Kyra Mobley won 8-6 at No. 2 and the Smith sisters, Hannah and Jenna, won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.

UTD came roaring back in singles play picking up three quick wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 to tie the match.

Jasmine Briant made quick work of Michaela Gulasy, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and Kyra Mobley won 6-0, 6-0 to secure the win right before UTD won the final match at No. 2 singles.

The win was a big win for the Cowgirls in the race to host the ASC Championship that goes to the ASC West champion. HSU and McMurry are undefeated in league play but the War Hawks are ineligible to host. UTD is 0-7 on the year but have played four nationally-ranked teams and were considered one of the top contenders for the Cowgirls in ASC West play.

HSU is now 11-5 overall and 3-0 in ASC West play. UTD fell to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The Cowgirls play at Sul Ross State on Friday.
