BROWNWOOD, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball split a doubleheader with Howard Payne on Friday winning game one 8-6 and losing game two 11-7 in American Southwest Conference play on Friday in Brownwood.
Game one saw the Cowgirls rally after being down 6-4 in the fifth inning. HSU scored four runs in the final three innings to get the win.
The Cowgirls had 13 hits with eight doubles in the win, Camille Scott with a pair of those extra-base hits.
Tia Campos started for the Lady Jackets with Hannah Stuart, Gabrielle Roque, and Audrey Simpson all coming in to pitch as well. Alexis Sullivan led her team with three hits and three RBIs.
Game two was a hot start for the Cowgirls with four runs in the first, however they were matched by 10 Lady Jacket runs in the next couple innings for a lead that they could not overtake, falling by a final score of 11-7.
Kenzee Hessert had a two-RBI home run to lead her team, while Howard Payne's leader was Haley Slater with four hits.
Casper got the start and Scott and Hinojos also pitched for the Cowgirls. Hannah Stuart got the win for the Lady Jackets.
The Cowgirls leave Brownwood 16-15 on the year and 11-7 in the ASC. Howard Payne moves to 13-16 and 9-12 in conference. The Cowgirls return to Abilene next weekend to play host to East Texas Baptist with a doubleheader starting at 1 P.M. Friday.
