IRVING, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team won both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday night at the University of Dallas, 12-3 in game one and 7-2 in game two.
The Cowgirls were up 2-1 in game one before exploding for seven runs in the fifth. The Cowgirls tacked on three more in the sixth to get the win by a final of 12-3.
Emily Martin started for the Crusaders and had the loss. Lindsay Devlin and Haley Henson also got some work in the circle for UD.
The Cowgirls took the lead 2-0 in game two in the third with a Kate Tovar double and a Karis Hessert SAC fly. The Crusaders scored one to answer, but Kenzee Hessert got the run back for the Cowgirls with a solo-homerun in the sixth.
Kaitlin Ammermann singled to score the fourth Cowgirl run. Tovar walked home another run, and Karis Hessert finished off the Cowgirl runs with a two-RBI single. HSU went on to win by a final of 7-2 in game two.
Taylor Hinojos pitched six innings in the start and had one run allowed. Christina Blevins also threw for the Cowgirls. Maggie Watts took the loss for UD and Emily Martin also pitched in the second game.
Ammermann had three hits in game two in the lead-off spot with an RBI. Karis Hessert had three RBIs to lead game two on two hits. Caitlyn Stevenson had three hits in game two for the Crusaders.
The Cowgirls move to 13-10 overall and make it five wins in a row. The Cowgirls will play at Southwestern for two games this Saturday before returning home on March 29 for an American Southwest Conference series with Louisiana College.
