ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team closed the 2018 season with a pair of losses on Saturday afternoon at Ellis Field, falling to LeTourneau 7-6 and 7-2.
Macey Mize gave LeTourneau a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single and the Cowgirls responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Lexie Allen had a two-run single, Katlyn McCoy added an RBI double and Amanda Tokunaga had an RBI groundout.
Taylor MacKenzie had an RBI single in the fourth inning for LeTourneau to cut it to 4-2 and Bailey Woodard added a two-run double and McKenzie a two-run single in the fifth to make it 6-4.
Senior Genia Salazar started her final game and allowed 11 hits in six runs to fall to 0-3 on the year. Gabby Ortega worked two innings. Ashley Burdine won in relief for the Jackets, allowing just one earned run in six and two-third innings to improve to 5-4.
Cierra Woodyard and McCoy had two hits each for the Cowgirls and Kelsi Coleman. Ashlin Roach and Mize had three hits for LeTourneau.
The Cowgirls took a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning but LeTourneau scored six times for the 7-2 win.
Coleman scored on a passed ball in the third inning to make it 1-0. HSU retook the lead on Tokunaga and Carpenter RBI singles in the fourth inning.
Ashlin Roach had an RBI single, Bailey Woodard a two-run double, Ethel Warren an RBI single and Amber Fillbrandt an RBI groundout in the final inning.
Carpenter led the Cowgirls with two hits and Shelby Barrick had two hits for LeTourneau. Julie Martinez won in relief for the Yellow Jackets with two and two-third innings of scoreless relief. Lexie Allen took the loss for HSU.
HSU closes the season at 1-37 overall and 1-29 in league play. LeTourneau improved to 16-20 overall and 11-16 in ASC action.
