MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped an American Southwest Conference doubleheader at No. 13 East Texas Baptist, falling 4-0 and 5-0 on Thursday evening at Taylor Field.
The Cowgirls lost 4-0 and the Tigers received a no-hit, 11-strikeout pitching performance from Jordan Anderson.
MacKenzie Anderson had a solo home run in the second inning and Sabrina Salts added a two-run home run in the second inning. Anderson also added an RBI single in the third.
Gabby Ortega was solid for the Cowgirls allowing just four hits in the game for the Cowgirls. She allowed four runs and fell to 0-16 on the year.
ETBU scored three runs in the first inning. Daniella Solis had an RBI single and Anderson a sacrifice fly. Another run scored on a double steal. Morgan Arst had an RBI double in the second and Solis ended the scoring with an RBI single in the fifth.
Lexie Allen allowed five runs on nine hits for the Cowgirls to fall to 1-10 on the year. Five different Cowgirls had hits.
Anderson allowed five hits in her second shutout of the day. She struck out nine. Lewis, Anderson and Solis had two hits each.
HSU is now 1-27 on the year and 1-19 in ASC play. ETBU improved to 23-4 overall and to 16-1 in conference action. The teams will conclude the series on Friday with a single game at noon.
