GEORGETOWN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped a doubleheader to Southwestern, 4-0 and 8-0, on Thursday afternoon at Taylor-Sanders Field in Georgetown.
Hardin-Simmons pitcher Lexie Allen tossed a no-hitter through the first four innings of the first game.
With one out in the fifth inning, Mary Alex Krosby singled to break up the no-hitter then Allen hit the next two batters. Kaitlynn Copher singled home a run and then Katie Bricarell had the big blow a three-run double.
Allen (0-6) took the loss allowing four runs on four hits. Nadia Netek went the distance, scattering seven hits to improve to 4-2 on the year.
Seven different Cowgirls had a hit in the game and Krosby had two of the four Southwestern hits.
Southwestern scored two runs in the second inning and three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to put the run rule in effect.
The Cowgirls are now 0-17 on the year and Southwestern improved to 11-7. HSU will return to action this weekend against Louisiana College. That series is scheduled to be played in Pineville, but could be moved to Abilene depending on field conditions at LC.
