AUSTIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped an American Southwest Conference doubleheader, falling 8-0 in six innings and 13-1 in five innings.
Concordia scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Katie Daniel had a two-run single and Anissa Garcia had an RBI single. The Tornados had a single run in the third and fifth innings and put two on the board in the sixth to put the run-rule in effect.
Lexie Allen allowed five earned runs over five and one-third innings to fall to 0-2. Christian Blevins worked one-third of an inning.
Taylor Verinsky scattered two hits in the complete-game shutout and she struck out four.
In the second game, Concordia scored seven times in the second inning and added six more in the third inning. HSU added a run in the fifth inning.
Gabby Ortega started and fell to 0-4 after allowing six runs on six hits. Lexie Allen allowed seven runs in an inning and one-third of work and Genia Salazar worked one and one-third scoreless innings.
Simone Langaland worked all five innings and allowed just three hits and one run to improve to 1-0. Brittani Whitten had two hits and drove in three runs to pace the Tornados.
HSU is now 0-6 on the year and 0-3 in ASC action. Concordia improved to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in league play. HSU will play a doubleheader at Southwestern on Wednesday.
