AUSTIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped its American Southwest Conference opener 14-0 at Concordia on Thursday evening.
The game ended on the five-inning run rule. Concordia scored six runs in each of the second and third innings and added two more in the fourth inning.
Jorden Russell kept the Cowgirls off balance the entire game. She had a no-hitter until the fifth inning. She ended up allowing just one hit and struck out six to improve to 1-3 on the year.
In her first game as a Cowgirl, Laura Guerrero broke up the no-hitter with a single in the fifth inning.
Gabby Ortega fell to 0-3 with the loss. She allowed 10 hits and seven earned runs in three and two-third innings.
Brittani Whitten had three hits and drive in four runs for the Tornados.
The Cowgirls are now 0-4 on the year and 0-1 in league play. Concordia improved to 2-3 and 1-0 in conference action. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. on Friday.
