Cowgirls Run-Rule Ozarks

ABILENE, Texas  — Hardin-Simmons' softball team completed its three-game American Southwest Conference sweep of the University of the Ozarks with a 16-0 five-inning run rule on Saturday afternoon at Ellis Field.

HSU busted the game open with nine runs in the first inning. Mac Clay reached on an error and Sydnie Darden followed with an inside-the-park home run on a slap hit the split the gap and went all the way to the fence in left center.

Braleigh Middleton had an RBI double, Lauren Williams an RBI single, Katelyn Joyner had an RBI single, Clay a two-run single and Darden a sacrifice fly.

Hsu scored five times in the second inning. Williams had an RBI ground out, Jayme Ashley an RBI single, Joyner an RBI double, Darden an RBI double and another run scored on an error.

The game was delayed almost an hour in the third. HSU scored single runs in the third on a Williams RBI single and an RBI double by Clay in the fourth.

Middleton and Joyner each had three hits for HSU. Clay had three RBIs and Darden had four RBIs.

Carol Swindell earned the win for the Cowgirls with three innings of scoreless relief. Keeley Lowrance and Lara Ammermann each worked a scoreless inning for the Cowgirls.

RaChelle Robinson had the lone hit for Ozarks. Haley McKee took the loss allowing nine runs in a third of an inning.

HSU is now 10-8 overall and 8-7 in conference play. Ozarks fell to 2-16 overall and 1-14 in league play. HSU will play at Louisiana College next weekend.
