Cowgirls Finish Season in the Sweet Sixteen

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team finished its season in Vermont after falling in the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA Tournament to Misericordia in PKs 4-2 following a 1-1 tie in double overtime.

The Cowgirls scored first in the 38th minute after a lined-cross from Kendell Groom found Elly Green for a backside goal.

Misericordia scored in the 87th minute after a ball in by Kristen Ritter finished by Michaela Fasolino, tying the game at 1-1.

The overtime periods yielded no score, and the game went into PKs to advance. The Cowgirls' first two shots were saved by the keeper, and the Cougars scored four straight to advance.

The Cowgirls had 13 shots with seven on goal while the Cougars took 16 shots and put five on frame.

Caitlin Christiansen had four saves in the game. Misericordia keeper Alexis Benedetto made six saves in the contest.

This wraps up the Cowgirls' season with a record of 18-1-2. This was the last game for seniors Josey Meyer, Taylor Bernal, Sarah Krisa, Casey Carrillo, Evan Pipkin, Lexie Kramber, Kenne Kessler, and Caitlin Christiansen, a group that went to the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA Championship Tournament every year.
