Cowgirls Advance to NCAA Third Round

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team beat Trinity 3-0 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday at the HSU Soccer Complex.

Baylee Ford opened the scoring for the Cowgirls for the second straight game. Ford scored on a header from the back post after a Josey Meyer corner to make it 1-0 HSU in the 18th minute.

Mackensie Moreno added to the Cowgirl lead with a beautiful shot in the 46th minute to get the second half going, making it 2-0 Cowgirls.

Elly Green finished the day off with a rip from outside the box that landed in the back upper-corner of the net for the third Cowgirl goal, making the final 3-0 HSU.

The Cowgirls had 13 shots in the contest with four on frame. Trinity had seven shots with one on goal. 

Caitlin Christiansen had one spectacular save on a Trinity free kick that she lifted over the corner of the goal, saving the shutout. Trinity's keeper Paige Wallace had one save as well in her outing.

When asked about his team, head coach Marcus Wood said, "They had a very complete performance today. They defended well, were tough to breakdown, and built up well."

The Cowgirls move to 18-1-1 on the season and look forward to next week's match in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
