ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer won 3-0 over the University of Puget Sound in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The game remained scoreless until the 58th minute when Baylee Ford scored her second goal of the season. The goal came in close from the backside of the goal after a Josey Meyer corner and a great Madelyn Dowell pass in the box.
In the 67th minute, Dowell took her own shot off another Meyer corner which was deflected by the keeper, but Kenne Kessler returned the rebound for the second Cowgirl goal.
Finda Kollie finished up the Cowgirls' scoring with a solo run through the teeth of the defense resulting in a goal in the 71st minute, making the final 3-0 HSU.
The Cowgirls had 18 shots in the contest with 10 on frame. Puget Sound had seven shots with three on goal.
Caitlin Christiansen had three saves in the win for the Cowgirls while Puget Sound's Jamie Lange had seven.
HSU makes it 17-1-1 with the win today and move on to play Trinity who defeated Occidental 1-0 in the first round. The NCAA second round game will be played at the HSU Soccer Complex on Sunday at 3 p.m.
