Cowgirls Advance To ASC Championship

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team advanced to the American Southwest Conference Championship with a 3-0 win over LeTourneau on Friday evening at the HSU Soccer Complex.

Hardin-Simmons will be looking for its 16th straight ASC title on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the HSU Soccer Complex against Mary Hardin-Baylor. There will be a tailgate at noon.

The teams played a tight first half and were scoreless until the 42:03 mark when Finda Kollie headed home a free kick from Madelyn Dowell.

The Cowgirls came out firing in the second half and Randie Dennison scored her 11th goal of the year when she took a Kenne Kessler cross just 1:42 into the second half and buried it into the net.

HSU put the game away at the 57:47 mark when Elly Green scored off a corner. Josey Meyer served it to Kollie who headed to Green who finished for her fourth goal of the year.

The Cowgirl defense held the Yellowjackets to three shots on goal and seven shots total in the game. HSU had 17 shots in the game and five on goal.

Caitlin Christiansen earned the win with a pair of saves in 70 minutes in goal. Casey Carrillo played the last 20 minutes in goal for the Cowgirls. Mackenzie Wilbanks played 80 minutes in goal for LeTourneau and had two saves.

The Cowgirls are now 15-1-1 on the year and LeTourneau closed its season with a record of 11-6-2.
