ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team won 4-1 over Howard Payne in Thursday night's American Southwest Conference game with the usual outstanding performance of Kenne Kessler, this time with a hat trick.
Kessler proceeded to wow us with a ridiculous goal in the 35th minute, after looping it over and across the keeper and banking it off the back post into the net for the score, making it 2-0 Cowgirls.
One would think Kenne's first goal was spectacular enough, but in the 57th minute, after a free kick, Kessler sliced and diced through the defense, dodging 3 defenders inside a 10-yard range, and scored her second goal of the night.
As if it couldn't get any better, the Cowgirls were awarded a penalty kick in the 62nd minute, and you guessed it, Kenne Kessler put it in the net with a hard upper-90 shot, making it 4-0 HSU.
Howard Payne got on the goal in the closing seconds of the game with a shot from Brittany Cortez, assisted by Kate Van Wyk, making your final 4-1 Cowgirls.
The Cowgirls had a whopping 31 shots in the contest with 13 on frame. The Yellow Jackets had nine shots in the game and three on goal.
Although in a loss, Howard Payne keeper Delaney Castor played strong, making nine saves in the 13 shots she saw. Caitlin Christiansen got the win with a save, while Casey Carillo also saw time. Kayla Gable got her first save in goal as well for the Cowgirls, and Alyssa Sucrese got in between the pipes to finish it for HSU.
HSU (10-1, 7-0 ASC) returns for Senior Day at the HSU Soccer Complex on Saturday, October 13th at 5:30 p.m. to face UT Dallas.
