MARSHALL, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team beat East Texas Baptist 6-1 in American Southwest Conference action with help from a Kenne Kessler hat trick.
Kessler got the game going with a break-away goal in the 12th minute. She added two more in the first half, with an assist from Josey Meyer. The Tigers Kendall Shirley scored in the 40th minute, making it a 3-1 HSU lead at the half.
The Cowgirls went on to add three more goals in the second half, the first by Elly Green in the 56th minute. Evan Pipkin scored off a nice set piece shot, and Lexie Kramber finished the day with a header goal off a Baylee Ford corner kick.
With her first-half hat trick, Kessler now has 76 career goals, which ties the non-scholarship era record at Hardin-Simmons.
HSU had 17 shots with 11 on goal to ETBU's five total shots and two on goal. The Cowgirls owned the corner-kicks margin with nine while the Tigers had none.
Casey Carrillo came in to finish the contest in goal for the Cowgirls, while Caitlin Christiansen had one save in the win. The Tigers starter Maddie Rea had two saves in the loss, and Karrigan Falber added three saves in her time between the pipes.
HSU (4-1, 2-0 ASC) heads to Longview this Saturday to take on LeTourneau at 2 p.m.
