September 15, 2018

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team beat Sul Ross State 3-1 in the first ever night game soccer match at HSU on Saturday night.

Rachel Bean started the scoring early, in the second minute, after a nice pass from Kenne Kessler. The Lobos answered with a PK goal from Aylin Villalobos in the 14th minute, but Bean added her second goal in the 24th minute off a Josey Meyer corner to retake the lead 2-1.

Kenne Kessler added a typical Kenne Kessler goal, a nice looping-backdoor, unstoppable shot, sealing the 3-1 win comfortably for the Cowgirls in the 82nd minute.

The Cowgirls had 21 shots and seven on goal to Sul Ross's four total shots, with three on goal. HSU dominated in corner kicks with a 13 to zero advantage.

In the win, Caitlin Christiansen had a pair of saves and moved to 3-1 on the year, while Lobo goalie Taylor Higgins recorded four saves in the loss.

HSU (3-1) looks forward to its next game at 5 p.m. on Thursday at East Texas Baptist.
