ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's golf team will play in the 54-hole American Southwest Conference Championship beginning Friday at the Squaw Valley Golf Club in Glen Rose.
The teams are playing a new format this season, playing 54 holes over three days. It is the first time that the women's event is a 54-hole tournament.
HSU is looking for its first title since 1999. The Cowgirls had a great fall that produced three wins. The spring has been more of a struggle with its top two players – Ashley Riemitis and Heidi Moser missing each of the last two tournaments with injuries. Both will be back for the ASC tournament.
The Cowgirls go into the tournament with the second-best average in the conference at 335.1. That average has been inflated by a 356 average over the last three rounds. Mary Hardin-Baylor, the defending ASC champion, averages 325.8 as a team.
Riemitis leads the Cowgirls with an 81.5 average, Heidi Moser is second with an 81.8 and Baylee Oehlert averages an 82.5. Their scoring averages rank No. 4, 6 and 7 among individuals in the tournament.
