Cowgirls Take Care of Tornados Behind Burke’s Big Game

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team won 71-51 against the Concordia University Tornados on Thursday night in American Southwest Conference play.

The first quarter was back and forth, with the Cowgirls pulling away in the last minute thanks to back-to-back threes by Ryan Bush, making it 19-12 HSU. The second quarter saw the Cowgirls push the lead to double-digits, leading at the half 31-20.

Keilee Burke led the Cowgirls coming out of the half with seven points and eight rebounds in the third. HSU pushed their lead to 56-34 going into the fourth and would go on to win 71-51 over the Tornados.

Burke had a dominant outing for the Cowgirls, finishing with a game-leading 17 points and 20 boards. Kaitlyn Ellis had 10 points and Maria Fernandez, Kiana Reed, and Bush all scored nine in the win.

Concordia's Molly Gideon led her team with 11 points, and Peyton Berger scored nine with 10 rebounds for the Tornados.

The Cowgirls move to 14-6 on the season and 8-4 in the ASC. Concordia drops to 7-14 and 3-9 in conference play. The Cowgirls will return to the Mabee Complex this Saturday to take on the first-place UMHB Crew at 1:00 p.m.
