AUSTIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team picked up its 10th win of the season with a 56-39 win over Concordia on Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action at the Concordia Fieldhouse.
The Cowgirl defense dominated the game, holding the Tornados to 22 percent shooting. HSU also had 56-35 advantage on the boards in the contest.
Concordia tightened the game in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to one on a couple of occasions but the Cowgirls led 24-21 at halftime.
HSU pushed the lead out in the third quarter and a 4-point play by Ritchie gave the Cowgirls a 38-27 lead and they led 45-31 after three quarters.
The Cowgirls held Concordia to 6-for-32 in the second half to take control of the game.
Ritchie scored a career-best 22 points and tied her career high with 14 rebounds to lead HSU. Keilee Burke had 15 rebounds for the Cowgirls.
Payton Berger led Concordia with 20 points and Kaycie Dunkerley added 10 points.
HSU is now 10-6 overall and 4-4 in the ASC West. Concordia fell to 7-9 overall and 3-5 in league play. The Cowgirls return home to start a five-game homestand on Thursday against Howard Payne.
