Cowgirls Win Second Straight


LONGVIEW, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team controlled the game from start to finish en route to a 65-48 win over LeTourneau in American Southwest Conference Action on Thursday evening at Solheim Arena.

HSU raced out to a 12-5 lead early on and never trailed in the game. The Cowgirls pushed the lead to 21-12 after the first quarter. A late 12-4 run at the end of the second quarter pushed the Cowgirl lead out to 40-21 at halftime.

The Cowgirls built on the lead in the third quarter and led 56-35 heading into the final quarter. HSU pushed the advantage out to 65-40 before LeTourneau scored the final eight points of the game.

Taylor Gaffney led a balanced attack for the Cowgirls with 16 points. Six other Cowgirls had at least five points. Keilee Burke had 11 rebounds for HSU.

Alexandria Thorne led LeTourneau with 14 points and Keauna Whitfield added 13.

HSU is now 9-4 on the year and 3-2 in conference play. LeTourneau fell to 3-10 overall and 0-6 in ASC play. The Cowgirls will play at nationally-ranked East Texas Baptist on Saturday at 1 p.m.
