ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team dropped its fourth straight game with a 62-48 loss to Austin College on Thursday night at the Mabee Complex.
The theme from the last three games showed up again for the Cowgirls. In each of the four losses, the Cowgirls have been right in the game going into the fourth quarter and have struggled shooting in the final quarter. HSU went just 2-of-19 from the field in the fourth quarter on Thursday.
Austin College jumped out to an early 15-7 lead in the first quarter, but the Cowgirls came charging back with a 12-2 run to take a 19-17 lead. AC led 20-19 after the first quarter.
Taylor Gaffney hit back-to-back 3-pointers late in the second quarter to give the Cowgirls a 30-28 lead and AC scored the final three points of the quarter to take a 31-30 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, the lead exchanged hands six times and there were two ties and Reagan Chiaverini's 3-pointer with :40 to play gave AC a 46-43 lead heading into the final quarter.
Austin College was just 2-for-7 from the field in the fourth quarter but lived at the free throw line and hit 12-of-14 free throws in the quarter. For the game, the Kangaroos were 19-for-26 at the line and the Cowgirls went 3-for-4.
Ann Savage led four AC players in double figures with 12 points. Bryce Frank had 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Kangaroos.
The Cowgirls are now 7-4 on the year and will close the fall semester on Tuesday with a 1 p.m. conference game at home against UT-Dallas. AC improved to 6-1 with the win.
