Cowgirls Stay Undefeated With Big Win Over Louisiana College

 

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team remained undefeated with a 79-60 win over Louisiana College in the American Southwest Conference opener for both schools on Thursday night at the Mabee Complex.

Both teams came out early and hit shots and LC had a 20-19 lead after one quarter. A 9-2 run by the Cowgirls opened up a lead and the Cowgirls led 37-32 at halftime.

LC took a brief 46-43 lead in the third quarter but the Cowgirls regained control and led 55-51 going into the fourth quarter. HSU pulled away from the Wildcats with a big fourth quarter, outscoring LC 24-9.

The Cowgirls received big nights from a pair of players off the bench. Kiana Reed had 12 points in the first half and Kaitlin Ellis had a 12-point second half and finished with a career-best 18 points.

Taylor Gaffney finished with 16 points, Maria Fernandez had 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists and Keilee Burke had 11 points and 17 rebounds for the Cowgirls.

Kourtney McGhee had 17 points to fuel Louisiana College and Jayla Landrum added 11.

The Cowgirls are 7-0 and 1-0 in league play. LC fell to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in ASC play. HSU will host Belhaven on Saturday at 1 p.m.
