Cowgirls Fall At Concordia

AUSTIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team fell 66-59 to Concordia in American Southwest Conference action on Thursday night at the Concordia Fieldhouse in Austin.

The Cowgirls came out strong in the first quarter and led 16-12 going into the second quarter and held a 29-26 lead at halftime.

The difference in the game came in the third quarter. Concordia came out on a 16-5 run to take a 42-34 lead with 3:42 to play in the third and pushed it to 49-38 heading into the final frame.

HSU made a push to start the fourth quarter with a 14-4 run to cut the deficit to 53-52. Concordia answered with eight straight points to extend the lead back to 61-52 and closed it out from there.

Addison Garcia led three Cowgirls in double figures with 15 points. Heidi Schroeder scored 13 points and Danie Mabry chipped in with 12.

Jaela Dejean led the Tornados with 17 points and Mercedes Ellison added 14.

HSU is now 4-16 overall and 2-11 in conference play. Concordia improved to 11-10 overall and to 7-6 in ASC play with its fifth straight win. HSU will play at Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday at 2 p.m.
