ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team fell to East Texas Baptist 78-63 in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex on Thursday evening.
The two teams went toe-to-toe for three quarters, but East Texas Baptist surged late in the fourth quarter for the win. Both teams were hot in the first quarter and Heidi Schroeder's jumper at the first quarter buzzer gave the Cowgirls a 21-19 lead.
HSU maintained the lead through halftime as the Cowgirls led 35-32 and continued to hold onto the lead until Karley McHenry hit a 3-pointer with :04 left in the third quarter to give the Tigers a 54-53 lead.
With five minutes to go in the game, the Cowgirls trailed 61-56, but the Tigers finished out the game by going 12-of-16 at the foul line in the fourth quarter.
Mallory Stephens led ETBU with 15 points and Karley McHenry added 12.
HSU is now 3-9 on the year and 1-4 in conference play. ETBU improved to 10-1 on the year and 4-0 in conference play. The Cowgirls will host LeTourneau at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
