Cowgirls Fall To Concordia
ABILENE, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team saw its postseason chances eliminated with a 69-61 loss to Concordia in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex on Thursday evening.

Concordia had an early 21-11 in the second quarter but the Cowgirls chipped away and cut the deficit to 26-25 with 1:11 to play in the first half and trailed 28-26 at halftime. In the second quarter, Kourtney Holyfield hit her second 3-pointer of the game and it gave her eight points and she reached the 1,000-point mark for her career.

HSU was hot in the third quarter and took as many as a five-point lead on a couple of different occasions. The Cowgirls led 48-46 going into the final frame.

The Tornados got in the bonus early in the fourth quarter and hit 13-of-18 free throws in the quarter to pull away from the Cowgirls down the stretch.

Jaela Dejean led four Concordia players in double figures with 21 points. Brenisha Payne added 17 points.

Holyfield led the Cowgirls with 20 points and Deontae Ingram added 13 points and eight rebounds. Kayla Brown had a game-high 14 rebounds for the Cowgirls.

The Cowgirls are now 8-15 on the year and 4-11 in ASC play. Concordia improved to 15-9 overall and 8-7 in conference play. HSU will close the season with a 1 p.m. game Saturday against Mary Hardin-Baylor.

It will be the final games of the careers of Holyfield and Brown.
