LUBBOCK, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' cross country teams had solid runs at the Texas Tech Open on Friday morning at the Lubbock Christian Golf Course in Lubbock.
Sydney Tencate ran a 19:43 and finished 18th overall in the 5K race. The Cowgirls were the only non-scholarship team in the event.
Brittany Acosta ran a 21:40, Yadira Loera finished in 21:45, Veronica Ritz ran a 22:18, Leslie Gonzalez had a time of 23:56 and Briana Cruz ran a 24:56 and Lauren Stokes had a time of 26:11
The Cowgirls finished ninth out of 12 teams. Texas Tech won the meet with a score of 48. Wayland Baptist was second with a score of 84, Abilene Christian was third with 89. HSU finished with a score of 237.
In the men's race, the Cowboys also finished ninth out of 11 teams. HSU had a score of 220. Texas Tech won the meet with 33 points. South Plains was second with a score of 49. Lubbock Christian (117), Abilene Christian (127) and UT-Permian Basin (135) rounded out the top five.
Tyler Rohrman led the Cowboys with a time of 28:54 in the 8K race. River Smith also finished under 30 minutes with a time of 29:48. Nathan McKendree ran a 30:16, Tyler Stout ran a 30:53 and Aaron Martinez had a time of 31:11. Marcus Arroyo ran a 31:13 and Michael Clark finished in 31:45 and Richard Denton had a time of 31:53.
HSU will run in the Chili Pepper Invitational next weekend in Fayetteville, Ark., in its next action.
