ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's cross country had a solid fourth-place showing at the season-opening Bill Libby Invitational on Friday evening at Nelson Park in Abilene.
The Cowboys finished with a score of 100 to place fourth out of six teams. Lubbock Christian edged Ranger College for the team title 30-39. Western Texas College was third with 70 points. McMurry was fifth with 148 points and Odessa College placed sixth with a total of 169 points.
Ben Splain led the Cowboys with a time of 16:20 for a 14th place overall finish in his first career race. A.J. Tillman placed 16th with a 16:33. Sammy Magallen was 20th overall with a 16:44.
Jordan Starr-Lopez ran a 17:00, Richard Denton finished with a time of 17:15, Stephen McEndree ran a 17:31, Dakota Patridge ran a 17:59, River Smith ran an 18:06, Santos Alaniz ran a 19:16 and Stewart Finn ran a 19:45.
With the exception of McEndree, all of the Cowboys were running their first race for HSU.
HSU will host its own meet next Friday at Nelson Park in its next action.
