ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' track and field team is in second place after the first day of the American Southwest Conference Track and Field Championship that is being held at the HSU Track and Field Complex.
The Cowboys' strength comes in the running events and the Cowboys qualified big numbers to the finals. HSU has four in the 100-meter final, two in the 200-meter final, three in the 400-meter final, four in the 110 hurdled-final and three in the 400-meter hurdles final.
Sammy Magallen placed fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a 10:38 and Smith placed fifth with a 10:42.
Tanner Wright placed second in the long jump with a school record 23-2 ½. Edashall Konah also scored in the long jump with a tie for seventh place at 22-1.
Devon Drane placed second in the discus with a throw of 141-8 and he placed fourth in the hammer throw with a 116-06.
McMurry leads after the first day with a score of 80 points. HSU is second with 41.5. Ozarks is third with a 26, East Texas Baptist is fourth with 24.5, followed by LeTourneau, Belhaven 22.5 and Concordia 16.
