Hardin-Simmons Set To Host ASC Championship
ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons University will host the 2017 American Southwest Conference Track and Field Championship on Friday and Saturday at the HSU Track and Field Complex.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. Friday with the 10,000 meters and other preliminaries will be held throughout the day on Friday. The 3,000 steeplechase will conclude Friday's running events. Field events will begin at 2 p.m. Friday.

Saturday the rest of the field events will be contested in the morning along with the 5,000 meters. The rest of the running finals will take place beginning at noon.

There will be nine teams competing in the event (with Belhaven not counting towards team scoring).

The Cowboys have several athletes that should compete for gold medals. Hasanai Chanriang finished second in the 400 hurdles last year and has the top time going into the event. Brandon Sparks-Moffett has one of the top times in the conference in the 100.

Duron Smith won the triple jump two years ago and has a chance to return to the top of the medal stand. Kaelon McLemore will score points for the Cowboys in the throwing events.

On the women's side, Sydney Tencate will try the 10,000, 5,000, 1,500 triple and will score several points for the Cowgirls as they try to defend their ASC title from a year ago.

Myra Carrion is in several events for HSU and is the school record holder in the pole vault. Samantha Pennese is the defending champion in the 100.
