ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team won 3-0 over Belhaven on Saturday night in American Southwest Conference play to tie the team record with nine wins in a row.
Jacob Gonzalez thread a needle to score the first Cowboy goal off a Mackenson Cadet assist in the 14th minute. Cadet then added a header goal back post from a Freddy Hernandez ball in to make it 2-0 Cowboys in the 15th minute.
Caziah Yame finished the scoring with a goal off a Gonzalez free kick outside the box to make it a 3-0 Cowboy win, the team record ninth in a row.
The Cowboys had 16 shots and seven on goal and the Blazers had four shots and three on frame. The Cowboys had eight corners and Belhaven had one.
Rafa Mejordao got the start in goal for Cowboys and Trent Ivy held down the fort in the second half with three saves. Belhaven started Max Rudolph at keeper and he had four saves. Alexander Martin came in also for the Blazers in goal.
The Cowboys are 9-0 and 2-0 in the ASC while Belhaven drops to 6-2 and 0-2 in conference. The Cowboys are on the road next week, starting at East Texas Baptist on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
