Cowboys Win Again, 2-1 in 2OT

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team won their sixth game of the season with a golden goal in double overtime against Christopher Newport playing at Trinity University.

The Christopher Newport Captains opened the game with a 29th minute goal by Derek Cook to take the lead 1-0. Jake Terhune scored for the Cowboys in the 44th minute off a Jacob Gonzales assist to tie the game going into half.

Freddy Hernandez scored the golden goal in the 104th minute off a Kiko Redondo assist to keep the Cowboys undefeated on the year, now at 6-0.

The Cowboys had nine shots and seven on frame while the Captains had 19 shots with 12 on goal in the match. The Cowboys had six corners to the Captain's three.

Cowboy goalie Rafa Mejorado had a 10 save performance in the win and Captain keeper John Piercy had five saves in the game.

The Cowboys are now 6-0 on the year and return home to Abilene to play Howard Payne on Thursday, September 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the HSU Soccer Complex.
